Recommended Groundworks, Site Instructions And Access

These notes should be read in conjunction with PAS35: 2002 and other documents relating to guarantees, insurance and maintenance.

1. Fences should be at least 1m high surrounding the hard surface, 3 metres from the sides of any equipment and 2 metres from the back of any equipment. They should have 2 self-closing gates to allow access for pedestrians and maintenance/emergency vehicles. (See C.2 BSI PAS 35:2002).

2. There should not be any grass, or gravel etc inside the fence.

3. For installation there should be an opening into the area at least 3 metres in width with access for a lorry (i.e. hard standing to the site at least 3m wide or a surface into which the lorry will not sink).

4. The surface itself should be flat, smooth and not pond after rainfall. It should be of sufficient strength to withstand the excesses of hot and cold weather without cracking and to be able to withstand the weight of any motor vehicles likely to drive onto the area (including the delivery vehicles for the equipment).

5. It should have a fall of not less than 1 in 100 and not greater than 1 in 80 from one side to the other.

6. The toe-plate sections of Quarter-Pipes and Flatbanks must be secured to a concrete foundation, 600mm wide x 150mm deep. Length determined by the width of individual units + 400mm.

7. Grind rails, grind benches and other small items must be secured to a concrete foundation the same length as the item, 300mm wide X 300mm deep

8. We can provide a groundwork plan for positioning foundations for grind rails, benches etc., if we know the layout of the skatepark.

9. All equipment is secured to the ground with a Studding/ Chemical Anchor System (Spec. available).

Typical surface specifications:

Tarmac:
150mm - 225mm (dependant on ground) of Type 1 stone to Clause 803.
40mm deep layer of 20mm dense Bitmac binder course.
25mm deep layer of 6 mm 47% High Stone rolled asphalt wearing course.
Drainage
Edging concrete

Concrete:
200mm (dependant on ground) of Type 1 stone to Clause 803
Layer of reinforcement mesh.
150mm deep layer of concrete
Should be power floated with no noticeable joins

Note: the above are basic guidelines for all forms of skatepark. The recommendations of PAS35:2002 should be adhered to in the interest of providing a safe environment for all users and non-users. The access for installation is vital and Full Circle Leisure Ltd. will require that this is made available for the initial installation.

If it is necessary to provide temporary hard standing, a roadway, or use another means of transporting the equipment to the skatepark location, Full Circle Leisure Ltd. must be informed on placement of order and this will be charged in addition.
