RAMPS MODULAR SYSTEM SURFACE MATERIALS SKATEPARK PLANNING EXAMPLES & REFERENCES

SURFACE MATERIALS

The surface of any Skatepark is one of the critical elements that contribute to the success of the facility. Evolution offer 3 surfacing options:

Option 1 - Synthetic (Recommended for exterior ramps)
Option 2 - Birch Ply (Recommended for interior ramps)
Option 3 - Steel

Whichever riding surface option you choose, the framework principle remains the same. In the instance of Option 1 & 2, the opportunity of change from one to the other in subsequent years is possible.

OPTION 3 - STEEL

There is no question that steel surfaces can withstand considerable abuse. At Evolution we can offer an integrally welded 4mm coated steel surface for a facility with a high risk of vandalism.

Steel surfacing has it's advantages from an operators point of view having a lower initial purchase coast and perception of zero maintenance. However, all surfaces need some degree of maintenance and steel ramps are no exception.

We believe it is absolutely vital that steel surfaces are painted with a non-slip coating. If the surface is not painted or maintained, ramps become extremely slippery and unpredictable for the user. The end result is a dangerous ramp with a high risk of a accidents and injuries.

Benefits:

• Smooth
• Fast
• No exposed surface fixings
• Heavy impact resistance
• Resistant to vandalism

Galvanised, stainless or non coated steel surfaces should NEVER be considered for a ramp surface as we believe this presents a real hazard to the user.

Coating surfaces allows the potential for ramps to be as low impact as possible by blending colours to match their surrounding environment.

Aside from ramps becoming slippery, problems are relatively few. However, it should be noted that steel surfaces become exceptionally hot in the summer months.
